Christmas Photos

So I'm going to be more prompt about posting my Christmas photos. (Unlike the ones from Thanksgiving).
We did not have snow on Christmas Eve but it did snow a couple of days before and stuck around for several days.
Zeke went crazy in it.
Holly was unimpressed.

Do you have a family ornament that has been passed down?
This one has been in my husbands family for over 100 years.
It spent this year on my niece's tree.

Here are some ornaments from my Aunt and Uncle's tree.
Teddy bears anyone? :)
These are some of the lights from the "Bugg House." This is only part of a huge display containing over 200,000 lights and numerous characters, that now lives at Menaul High School but at one time, the entire thing was at the Bugg's single family home.

Christmas Tree Toppers

Or I should say, non-traditional ones :)
This is ours...

And this one is not ours, but I really like it!

Merry Christmas to All!

Christmas in Southern California

Our previous 6 Christmases have been in Southern California. So, I thought I'd share some of those photos with you. Since Orange County doesn't get much snow, they bring in their own.

These are the lights on one of the homes in Huntington Harbor. Folks even decorate their boats!
We put up luminarias one year. The stand with the candle on it tells the story of why we put up luminarias, since most of the people in our neighborhood had never seen or heard of them.
And finally, picture of our tree. Several of the decorations were ones I had made myself from the time I was little. But most were made of various sea shells. We accumulated a lot of sea shell decorations over our 6 Christmases there, so many that I can decorate the tree with sea shell ornaments alone!

And this is Lucy, who belongs to a neighbor of my Aunt and Uncle, and got to join us on our walk.
And don't forget to check out the SALE that's still running on my website. The prices are fantastic and the Sale is running through Sunday the 13th of December. Any items purchased during this sale will be shipped so you have them in time for Christmas.

Just a walk

I'm looking through my photos and I found these taken on a walk by the Rio Grande on a late spring afternoon. (Yes I'm pining for warmer weather). Next to a ditch by the river we see this little family. Careful! Geese parents can be very protective.
For parts of the walk you can see into folk "backyards." How is this for a pet? I called out "Here Camel." And she came right to me and let me pet her! And what is this in the water? A muskrat? I think so...

Snowy

I know it's nothing like the snow in other parts of the country but it was the first of the season here, and I'm not used to it yet. :) We got this winter storm last week and when it was over there was about an inch of snow on the ground at my house.
My tomatoes were finally done in by this storm too. You can see the red and yellow of the ones I was not able to pick before the snow started.
And I wonder if Zeke remembered it from 6 years ago? He romped about a little but didn't want to stay out in it very long...
And by the next day all traces of the snow in town were gone. And less than a week later I no longer see snow covered Sandia or Manzano mountains. Perhaps I should go up there and search for any hidden traces!

How Many Mammograms?

So how did the Breast Cancer Site do in their goal to provide 500 mammograms to women in need as a way to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October?

There you go. 406 mammograms. Not quite their goal but still impressive none the less. And next year I'm sure they will do it!
Thanks to everyone who participated by clicking each day on the pink button on this blog (or by putting your own click-able button on your websites).

Quarai, Abo & Gran Quivira

Abo

These three sites are part of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.
Quarai

And if you get an early start, it's possible to visit them all in one day.
Gran Quivira

You might want to bring a picnic and have lunch at one of the missions.

Gran Quivira

The mission churches were mostly constructed in the early 17th century by Native American people after the arrival of European missionaries. They were abandoned in the 1670's due to a devastating drought. While Abo and Gran Quivira are larger, I think I liked Quarai best. The grounds were beautiful to walk through and when we visited there was a slight breeze and the cottonwoods sounded like water. It's possible to have the grounds nearly to yourself especially at Quarai, even in summer.

You Yellow Bellied Sapsucker :)

I used to think this was just an insult. But it turns out there really is such a thing! See these photos I took in my backyard a few months ago. (you can click on the images to see a bigger shot). I had no idea what they were at the time. I'd never seen them before. But they were pretty and after I photographed and watched them pecking away at the power pole, I did some research.
As near as I can tell from looking at photos (and none that I found looked exactly like these birds) they are sapsuckers and look most like the Yellow Bellied to me. I'm not sure what they were doing in this part of the country (New Mexico) and I have not seen them since so perhaps they were blown a bit off course. If anyone out there knows for sure what they are let me know :)

Yes, I Changed It Again!

...my layout that is. I can't help it. And this is a creative blog after all. :) I'll probably keep changing them for holidays, seasons, moods, etc. So far, I don't have time to design my own (maybe someday) but I've been finding really nice ones at Allie Browns Layouts. If you have blog on Blogger or Blogspot, and want to change your look, give her a visit for some ideas. Her blog has instructions for changing your layout too. (But if you need any help let me know).

Don't Forget to Click!

The Breast Cancer Site has a goal to provide 500 mammograms to women in need for the month of October. Each click this month counts twice! But, with the campaign at it's halfway mark, they are only at 36%of their goal at this moment. They need more clicks! Don't forget to visit here daily and "click" each time. (I have a pink button on my sidebar). And tell your friends to come visit and help out with their clicks too. Do you have your own website or blog? Why not put a button on your site and encourage your visitors to participate? Please look here for click-able buttons and banners. What a great way to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
