Bosque Trail Birds

After we visited the wood sculptures at Pueblo Montaño, we continued on the Bosque trail towards Paseo del Norte.
There was an abundance of birdlife and this is one of the more colorful ones I managed to photograph. I think he is called Western Tanager. Am I right?

And I think this guy is called Hepatic or Summer Tanager. Perhaps someone could clear that up for me?
Here he is doing a bow for us :)

And this guy, I'm pretty sure, is Snowy Egret.

I like the effect in this photograph of the Canada Goose photographed through the trees.

Pueblo Montaño - Bosque Trail

Pueblo Montaño is part of the Paseo del Bosque Bike Trail and is located south of Montaño Road; and west of the Rio Grande River.

The parking lot includes dedicated ADA and equestrian-parking areas.

It is a multi-use recreational facility providing West-side access to the bosque trail-system.

You can also enjoy the wood carvings at this site.

This area was severely affected by the 2003 bosque fires and Open Space turned this tragedy into a unique, informative and artistic expression for the love of the bosque.

Local artist and retired firefighter Joseph Mark Chavez has carved representative pieces from the cottonwood tree stumps, left intact.

His carvings are amazing!

Interesting Study

A Hotel chain in the UK recently commissioned a study of peoples habits when sleeping alone. Of the 2000 people studied, 63% said they needed a cuddle to sleep.
One other statistic I found interesting was:
20% of men take teddy bears to bed when sleeping alone...

Holly at Memory Walk

Yes, you could bring your puppies! This is a photo of Holly at the 2008 OC walk and I hope they are welcome at the Albuquerque Walk too. They had a "Doggie Dugout" where you could pick up a purple bandana for the 4-legged walkers as well a poop-baggies and treats. She had a great time and did a fabulous job as 2008 team mascot.
Way to go Holly!

Dog Show

Every year in May there is a big 5 day All Breed Dog Show at the fairgrounds.Doesn't she look like she's saying, "Happy to see you!"?

And doesn't this look like Holly trying to get her ribbon before she even goes into the ring? (But no, it isn't the magnificent Holly).
There were two white Akitas in the breed ring, a male and a female. I think she's saying "Hey handsome!"And boy was he!The pose.Final four for Best of Breed. And he won! Yay!!

Yes, there were other dogs besides Akitas there. Here are some other white ones...

And another silly cute one! :)

2010 Memory Walk~Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico

About Memory Walk
Memory Walk is the single largest fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, both locally & nationally. The New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association offers educational programs & trainings around the state, caregiver respite assistance program, a free quarterly newsletter, & a toll free helpline. In addition, the association assists with registration in the Safe Return Program for patients who wander, acts as a legislative advocacy body for patient rights, & maintains a network of more than 40 support groups statewide. All of these services are provided confidentially & free of charge.

Memory Walk is the nation's premier fundraiser to help those battling Alzheimer's disease. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $200 million for programs & services for individuals with Alzheimer's, their families, & caregivers.

As many of you know, I had a loved one who had Alzheimer's disease and I saw first hand the effect this disease can have. So, the Alzheimer's Association and the work they do is very important to me. Since 2006 I have participated in Memory Walk, first in Orange County, CA and now back home in Albuquerque. Please take a moment to visit my Memory Walk donation page either by clicking here, or the link on my sidebar. I appreciate any and all support and thank you in advance for your help!

Home & Garden Tour

On Mother's Day there was a home & garden tour in one of the historic districts of Albuquerque. Most of the focus was at this home at 12th and Roma. As you can see the line was quite long and we decided to skip the interior and visit the other 9 homes on the tour.

Here are some of the beautiful exteriors. Some that were on the tour and others that were not.

And some lovely interiors.

Play it again Sam.
There were some 4-legged attendees too!

This is from a hike in our foothills after a crazy May winter storm. We had snow and hail in areas.
I wonder what this guy thought?!
The yucca and cacti didn't seem to mind.
And the wildlife were all about business as usual.
This was the first time I had seen a jackrabbit in many years!
