Bella's Bells!

And here is Bella. Our newest family member.
She is modeling a jingle-bell, Christmas ruff I made her.
She wore it when she went to visit Santa but the silly girl closed her eyes for pictures! :)

Bella's Stocking

We needed a stocking for our new family member and I decided to make one this time.
I experimented with all the leafy fancy stitches on one of my machines and just randomly sewed. The fabric is backed by batting and muslin so it does have a nice quilted look and feel. I used the star stitch on the cuff as it looked sort of snow-flakey to me :)  I think Bella will like it!

Holly Quilt

This is my second quilt, a memory quilt of Holly. Just like Zeke's quilt, I machine quilted everything. This was the first time I used a walking foot though, and it does make stitching all those layers easier.
I also outline stitched the images in the photos so they "pop." I used green thread in the bobbin to match the quilt backing and different colors on the spool to match whatever I was quilting on the top. This quilt also has mock binding.

I was planning to experiment with the quilting foot and possibly outline some of the cherry blossoms but I made so many mistakes and ripped out so many stitches I did not like, I figured I would save that for next time! Maybe something smaller, so if I don't like it, it doesn't take so long to rip out and redo :)
I'm happy with the end result though. This quilt has turned into a lovely wall hanging.

Fleece blankets

I love making these blankets. For 3 winters in a row I have made them for us and given them as gifts at Christmas.
A print on one side, a solid on the other and zig~zag stitch around.  Don't forget to leave a 6-7" opening for turning, then close your opening. People also like the "no-sew" or "tie-blankets" where 4-6" inch long strip are cut all around the perimeter and tied together so that no needle and thread or sewing machine is needed!
Here I've shown just 2 of the blankets I've made. The red one for our dog, (if you don't make them their own they might steal yours!) and the animal kingdom one for me. Hubby has one with a fishing bear. (not shown as it was in use at the time). So everyone here will be warm for the coming winter :)

Gelato Face!

Today would have been Holly's 14th Birthday. We always took her out on her birthday and one of our stops would be for gelato.
I loved those times, and all my time with her...  She is still so missed.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOLLY! We love you!

Help Fund Free Mammograms for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Breast Cancer Site was founded to help fund free mammograms for women in need — women for whom early detection would not otherwise be possible. Since its launch in October 2000, the site has established itself as a leader in online activism and in the fight to prevent breast cancer deaths. The Breast Cancer Site provides a feel-good way to help promote awareness and prevent breast cancer deaths every day — through easy online activities.

With a simple daily click of the pink button on my sidebar, or the banner at the end of this post, visitors help provide mammograms to those in need. Visitors pay nothing. Mammograms are paid for by the The Breast Cancer Site's sponsors and distributed by the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.

The issue of breast cancer is painfully close to many people's hearts. Each year, 211,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 die. Almost everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis or that of a loved one.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women ages 40 - 55. Early detection is the key to survival and better treatment options, and mammography is among the best-known methods of early detection, yet 13 million women in the U.S. over 40 have never had a mammogram.
In addition to clicking the pink "Click Every Day!" button, visitors can make early detection and survival of breast cancer possible by shopping in The Breast Cancer Site store. With each item purchased, shoppers generate funds for free mammograms for women in need. The store offers a wide array of items to show your support, including pink ribbon jewelry and apparel.

In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness month I plan to keep the "Click Every Day!" button on my sidebar through October so be sure to check back and click every day! :)

2011 Walk to End Alzheimer's Photos ~ UPDATE

The Walk to End Alzheimer's was held on Saturday September 10th at Kinney Civic Plaza in Albuquerque.

During opening ceremonies, the Presentation of Colors was made by members of the fire and police departments.

And this gentleman is a fantastic choice to sing the Star Spangled Banner. Bravo!

Then, bagpipers played Amazing Grace.

These folks were all affected by Alzheimer's in various ways.
And the crowd held flowers to represent how their lives had been affected by Alzheimer's and to show honor and support.

We had the option of a 1K, 3K or 5K walk and of course we did the 5K! :)
There was a Kids Korner, K9 Korner,
Refreshments, a Raffle,
as well as other booths.
The Alzheimer's Association has received a total of $98,665 in donations and Team Perry's Termite made $369 of their $600 goal. UPDATE:  As of 11-10-11, The Alzheimer's Association has received $103,687 in donations!

Our team members were Rick, Ken, Diana, Mom and Mike. Way to go team!

First Quilt

I gave you a "Sneak Peek" of this on the 24th.  Now you get to see the whole thing. It's a memory quilt of Zeke.
Be gentle, it's my first quilt. It's entirely machine quilted. I did not do  a lot of "quilting" on it, just stitching in the ditch as I did not want to quilt over the photos. And yes, I did use red thread as I thought the effect of seeing the thread would be interesting. And I made my own binding.
It was hard to make but in spite of that I like quilting!
I'm working on my second quilt now. It's also a memory quilt, this time of Holly. I will try some different things on it.  Stay tuned...

Kimono

As promised, photos of my polymer clay kimono pendant.
It is made from the same cane as the earrings from my last post. It has lots of details like the front "closure" and an obi.
I've strung it on a black cord with silver and silver-plate accents.

Earrings for Sale

I just finished 3 pair of earrings.  They are all handmade of polymer clay.  All are made from a red cane that has a white flower accented in yellow.  The cane was made to decorate a kimono pendant (I will post it after the pendant has been hung and is wearable) and I used the rest of the cane to make the earrings.  All 3 pair have surgical steel ear wires and yellow seed bead accents.  Both round pair also have silver and silver-plate bead accents.
They are being offered to my blog readers at a discounted price for one week only.  After the week is over they will be offered on my website, on my new jewelry page, at their regular prices.

Please contact me (see sidebar) for a Paypal invoice or for my mailing address if you wish to pay by check or money order.
Please consult my Store Policies page prior to ordering.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
