    More Pink!

    This one is for my niece's first baby girl.
    It's very similar to the other pink afghan I finished last month.
    It was crocheted with one strand of bulky yarn & also worked up quickly.
    I think I might be done with baby afghans for awhile but I guess you never know... :)

    Pink Baby Blanket

    This one is for another cousin's first baby girl.
    I took my favorite elements from the Aran afghan I finished last month, and used them here.
    I also crocheted with two strands of yarn held together so it worked up much quicker than the first one.

    One more pink baby afghan to go... :)

    Blue Baby Blanket

    This one is for my cousin's second baby boy.
    A diagonal Aran afghan.
    This is by far one of the most complicated designs I have done.  And the project was chosen & started when I heard that there will be not one, but two more babies coming in a very short time.
    Whew! :)

    Abiquiu, NM

    Abiquiu is a small town about 53 miles north of Santa Fe.
    On a recent weekend trip there, we stayed at Abiquiu Inn. This a photo of the courtyard shared by the Plaza Blanca rooms near the front of the property.
    The building above is the one that houses 3 Chama Vista Casitas where we stayed. The best feature of these are that they each have a private screened-in porch, overlooking pasture land. (Hint: If you book on of these, ask for one of the casitas on the end. We had the middle casita so we could hear neighbors on either side).  The Inn also has a cafe that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    We visited the lake, Plaza Blanca, & Ghost Ranch.
    Plaza Blanca seen above is accessed from an unimproved road for at least part of the way. I would not try this if it has been raining or snowing, or you might be stuck! However the scenery is breath-taking.

    The photo above is from Ghost Ranch and probably it's most well know formation, Chimney Rock.

    In the photo below, the house shown is not as old as it looks.  It was built in 1991 for the movie City Slickers and allowed to remain after filming was completed.
    There have been over a dozen movies that have featured scenery from Ghost Ranch including The Lone Ranger,  Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, & No Country for Old Men just to name a few.
    Ghost Ranch is probably best know for it's famous association with Georgia O'Keeffe. Not only did she paint many scenes from Ghost Ranch, but made her home there for a time as well.
    Bella is posing after our hike to Matrimonial Rock. (She is hoping someone will make a painting of this). You can see Abiquiu Lake in the background.

    I Heard Your Voice In The Wind Today

    I heard your voice in the wind today
    and I turned to see your face;
    The warmth of the wind caressed me
    as I stood silently in place.

    I felt your touch in the sun today
    as its warmth filled the sky;
    I closed my eyes for your embrace
    and my spirit soared high.

    I saw your eyes in the window pane
    as I watched the falling rain;
    It seemed as each raindrop fell
    it quietly said your name.

    I held you close in my heart today
    it made me feel complete;
    You may have died...but you are not gone
    you will always be a part of me.

    As long as the sun shines...
    the wind blows...
    the rain falls...
    You will live on inside of me forever
    this my heart knows. ~ Author Unknown

    About the Alzheimer's Association "Walk to End Alzheimer's"

    As many of you know, I lost a loved one who had Alzheimer's disease and saw first hand the effect this devastating disease can have. So, the Alzheimer's Association and their work is very important to me. Since 2006 I have participated in The Walk to end Alzheimer's (previously called Memory Walk), first in Orange County, CA and now back home in Albuquerque. Please take a moment to visit my Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ donation page either by clicking here, or the link on my sidebar. I appreciate any and all support and thank you in advance for your help!

    The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ is the single largest fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, both locally & nationally. The New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association offers educational programs & trainings around the state, caregiver respite assistance program, a free quarterly newsletter, & a toll free helpline. In addition, the association assists with registration in the Safe Return Program for patients who wander, acts as a legislative advocacy body for patient rights, & maintains a network of more than 40 support groups statewide. All of these services are provided confidentially & free of charge.

    The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

    Thanks again for your support :)

    Ear Warmers

    I crocheted this ear-warmer for myself last month & it just occurred to me to photograph it now.  As soon as I got out the camera, Bella offered her services as model.  (Maybe I should make her one.  She often wears one of my scarves around her ears when we are walking in winter & the cold starts to make her shake her head).
    And she is much prettier than my mannequin don't you think? :)
